The crisis in eastern Aleppo is a tragic testimony to our collective failure to prevent and resolve conflict.

We are appalled by the reports of continuing and intensifying atrocities being committed against civilians in the city.

We call for immediate and concrete actions from the international community to end the hostilities, ensure safe evacuation corridors for civilians and provide vital humanitarian protection.

We also stand in solidarity with the civilians of Aleppo, and our Syrian partners, who are working to support the most vulnerable but also, even in the midst of the conflict, have been driving efforts to build peace.

The devastation is simply unacceptable. How in 2016 could the world’s governments allow this to happen?

This is a joint statement by Peace Direct, International AlertConciliation Resources, and Saferworld.
