“I’ve been a patron of Peace Direct since it was founded fifteen years ago. In this time, we’ve grown from a simple, sustainable idea to an international organisation working in twelve different countries with 16 local partners – but there are still so many more people and places to reach.
One example of the difference we make is in the remarkable story of Josephine, from the Democratic Republic of Congo. She was once a combatant but now builds peace in her community, thanks to the support of Peace Direct and our incredible local partner.
My belief in and passion for the work of Peace Direct means that it gives me great pleasure to have recently presented the BBC Radio 4 Appeal on behalf of the charity. In it, I explain in more detail why I believe the local approach to peacebuilding is so vital, and I share more about Josephine’s story too.
You can listen to the appeal here.
Thank you so much, and I hope you will join me in supporting Peace Direct.”
