Peace Direct is delighted to welcome our newest members to the UK Board of Directors: Maryam Mohsin and Peace Ashenafi. Maryam and Peace have both long been engaged with the peacebuilding, international development and humanitarian sectors, and we are thrilled to have their leadership and support.

Maryam has over 15 years’ experience working in communications and media for INGOs and thinktanks on a range of issues, including Official Development Assistance (ODA), migration, human rights and civic space, climate change, basic service delivery in conflict-affected states, and ending child marriage. At present, Maryam is the Head of Media and Communications at Bond, and leads the organisation’s work to decolonise and depoliticise the sectors’ use of language.

Peace Ashenafi is a Peacebuilding Officer and Senior Enquiries Officer at Tearfund. Her role focuses on shifting the narrative on national security to create spaces to explore alternative methods of achieving security. Passionate about peacebuilding, human security and advocacy work, Peace shares on joining the Board,

“I have been following Peace Direct's work for many years and their work has shaped my understanding of peacebuilding. I am excited to join the board and contribute to their vision to champion local peacebuilders and build sustainable peace."

We also express our thanks to Belinda Bell for her years of support and guidance to Peace Direct on the UK Board. On completing her term as a Trustee, Belinda shares,

“It has been an amazing journey being part of the organisation especially during the challenges that the pandemic added to the organisation, and to peacekeepers around the world. I have been consistently humbled by the work the charity enables, and particularly delighted to see the enthusiastic response to the important work PD has led on in relation decolonising aid. This crucial conversation will continue to be a fundamental part of PD's work as we strive for a just and peaceful world.”
