This month supporter Nicholas Arbello is cycling from London to Lisbon to raise money for Peace Direct. An avid traveller who has participated in many volunteer projects, Nicholas is cycling to find peace and clarity within his own life and is taking the opportunity to raise money for us. Nicholas chose to support us because of the important work we do in finding and funding local peacebuilders around the world – individuals and groups who find their own solutions to building peace and resolving conflict. In his words: “I have chosen to sponsor a charity that deals with helping to achieve peace around the world and in turn give people more enjoyable, fulfilled lives.”
Nicholas left London on Monday 29th September and made a two day journey to Dover to catch the ferry to France. He is currently pedalling his way to Bayonne in South-West France and will soon reach the Spanish border. His route is not planned and his timeframe is not set in stone demonstrating exactly the kind of flexible determination required in any journey to peace. He is showing a commendable courage and determination to battle the challenges he is faced with, an attitude that is reflected in the individual peacebuilders we work with all over the world.
Like us at Peace Direct, his friends and family admire his motivation and ability to work through the challenges he is faced with. Charlotte, a close friend of his, told us: ““He is very inspiring for doing something so outrageous yet sticking at it with great passion and ambition.” To inspire people and bring about positive change, you sometimes have to do what nobody else is doing. This is an attitude we greatly admire at Peace Direct and hope Nicholas’ story will be motivation for others.
We wish Nicholas the best of luck in his adventure and look forward to regular updates from him.
