As the UN prepares the new global development goals (SDGs) and the EU marks 2015 as its European Year of Development, a unique online map launches on 22 June showing €2.3 billion of peacebuilding projects supported by the EU’s IcSP fund.

The EU is the world’s largest aid donor. The new interactive EU IcSP Map shows details for 292 peace projects in 80 countries, including Iraq, Ukraine and Syria.

This is a key resource for understanding the scope of the EU’s IcSP (Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace). IcSP enables the EU to fund conflict prevention projects and respond to crises. Its budget for 2014-20 is €2.3 bn.

Projects on the map include small-scale work being implemented by local organisations, as well as larger initiatives run in collaboration with the UN and international NGOs. Each project can be searched by theme, year of operation and EU contract number.

The map was created by Peace Direct, the global specialists in local peacebuilding. It is freely available on Insight on Conflict, Peace Direct’s online showcase for local peacebuilding worldwide. IOC already covers 1,003 peace projects in 32 countries.

Insight on Conflict Project Manager Kevin McCann said:

“This map reveals the often ignored scale of peace projects around the world, and the cutting-edge role that technology can play in support of peacebuilding. Insight on Conflict is continuing to develop as the world’s leading online resource on local peacebuilding. We hope that journalists, policy-makers and peacebuilders themselves will use our new EU map, and the site itself, to find out more about peacebuilding around the world.”
