This joint statement calls upon global leaders to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities in light of the ICJ’s Advisory Opinion and the UN General Assembly (UNGA) resolution. Demanding compliance with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion ruling on the illegality of Israel’s actions in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt). The ICJ’s Advisory Opinion affirms that Israel must “bring to an end without delay its unlawful presence” in the territories it occupies – an obligation under international law. The statement urges states to uphold this ruling and to take concrete measures to ensure accountability and justice for ongoing violations.

The statement also demands an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, an end to the transfer of arms used in violations of international humanitarian law, and the opening of humanitarian corridors to deliver lifesaving aid. It highlights the devastating toll of Israel’s ongoing assault across oPt, including tens of thousands killed, widespread displacement, and the destruction of homes, schools, and hospitals.

Peace Direct echoes these calls, and is in solidarity with those demanding justice, protection for civilians, and a just and lasting peace.

The time for action is now.

We urge all states to take concrete steps to uphold the ICJ’s findings and to ensure an end to Israel’s illegal occupation. At a minimum, global leaders must:

  1. Ensure the end of Israel’s unlawful occupation and demand Israel’s full withdrawal of military and civilian personnel and infrastructure from the oPt, as outlined by the ICJ advisory opinion.
  2. Hold Israel accountable for violations of international humanitarian law.
  3. Cease military and security support and suspend all arms sales to Israel.
  4. Halt trade or business with illegal settlements or enabling Israel’s illegal occupation.
  5. Ensure multilateral cooperation for Palestinian self-determination.
