Led by our partner Yakjah, a group of Kashmiri women came together on this Day of Peace to hold an advocacy workshop to inspire young girls to engage in building peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Thanks to our supporters, Yakjah will continue to reach out to the youth in local communities and engage them in growing peace in the region.

On 21 September, the International Day of Peace, widespread protests raged through Kashmir. In a violent reaction to the anti-Islamic film produced in the USA that appeared on YouTube, the protests were extreme enough that all schools and colleges were closed in the region. Yet only the very next day, fresh in the wake of these protests, 35 women came together from remote villages in Kashmir to hold a poignant candlelit vigil to proclaim a “Day of Peace”.

Led by our partner Yakjah, the group from North Kashmir’s women’s college in Sopore came together on this Day of Peace to hold an advocacy workshop to inspire young girls to engage in building peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Thanks to our supporters, Yakjah will continue to reach out to the youth in local communities and engage them in growing peace in the region.

Our support has already allowed Yakjah to encourage new thinking and is engaging young minds in building peace in Jammu and Kashmir. As we look into the future, we look forward to growing and developing Yakjah – and growing peace. Make a donation today.
