Abdi Botan (known to us as Botan) was the Project Officer for our partner organisation in Somalia, Social life and Agricultural Development Organisation (SADO). He was dearly loved and highly respected in his community and by those he worked with.

Botan worked with SADO for many years to develop projects that supported young people at risk of poverty or armed recruitment to become peaceful and productive members of their communities. He managed SADO’s vocational training centre, and implemented two consecutive livelihood projects that taught young people and women about their rights and how to become positive agents of change. Botan’s work touched the lives of many, and helped to spread peace across communities in a country tarnished by decades of armed conflict.

“He was a true educationist who selflessly served the people of Somalia for many years. Abdi Ali Botan was a very kind and humble elder and his death is such a great loss to us all.” – Spokesperson from SADO

He is remembered by us as a kind, funny, caring and hardworking person, and a committed peacebuilder, whose legacy will live on in the people whose lives he helped to transform, and the pockets of peace his work created.

Our thoughts are with Botan’s family, the SADO team, and all those who were close to him at this time.
