Local Action Fund

Our ‘Local Action Fund’ is a flexible and innovative funding mechanism to support frontline peacebuilding efforts in some of the most complex and volatile conflicts worldwide.

The Local Action Fund (LAF) supports locally-led peacebuilding initiatives through swift, small grants of below $15,000, coupled with training, information sharing, and opportunities for wider collaboration and advocacy.

What is LAF? Download our 2-page Summary

Since 2019, we have worked with multiple partners who play the role of “hub organisations” – organisations which identify local groups and support them to collaborate, overcome obstacles, and increase their impact. It is based on over 15 years of research and experience in supporting local peacebuilding efforts.

The Local Action Fund Model

The LAF is more than just a grant-making programme.

It is an approach to supporting and strengthening local peacebuilding groups who are often operating below the field of vision of most donors and are not able to access funding. It enables us to support a larger number of community-designed initiatives, build bridges within civil society, and support peacebuilding organisations to respond to violence and potential atrocities locally and swiftly.

Through this work, we are creating of a growing ecosystem of peacebuilders who share common goals and have the connections and support that they are often unable to access due to their size.

Peace Direct work with 10 partners across Asia and Africa whose work focuses on two main areas: atrocity prevention and Youth, Peace and Security (YPS).  Our Local Action Fund partners currently work in CAR, DRC, Mali, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan and Sudan.
