We are delighted to announce an exciting new opportunity for Peace Direct. We have been chosen to participate in Global Giving’s UK Gateway Challenge starting on Monday 8 June. Our aim is to raise £2,500 from 50 people in five weeks for our project to rescue and resettle child soldiers in DR Congo. If we are successful in rising to this challenge, we will be taken on as a permanent partner of Global Giving; a worldwide funding platform, registering 300,000 unique new users every year.

{ “projectids” : “20787”, “ggtid” : “443F19F8BF44BD6BBE6728A8ACFF97DE” } With the money raised from the challenge, we can support the work of our partners Centre Résolution Conflits (CRC). Together, we aim to rescue 9 child soldiers, returning them back to their communities so they can lead safe, happy lives.

Children as young as seven are taken from their families to fight in violent conflicts that they can’t possibly comprehend. Raising £2,500 will allow us to negotiate their release from militia control, provide them with food and shelter, counselling, and an education or livelihood so they can recapture the life that is so cruelly taken away from them.

We are looking forward to rising to this new challenge. As leading advocates of local peacebuilding, the potential to reach new audiences on Global Giving represents a significant opportunity for us. In the meantime, we remain focused on meeting our fundraising target to provide vital support for CRC and secure the release and rehabilitation of child soldiers in DR Congo.
