Who is Peace Connect for?

Peace Connect is for peacebuilders and their allies from around the world. The event will be the first of its kind: a global peacebuilding gathering aimed specifically at and for local peacebuilders. The design and format of the event is being guided by a steering committee made up of local peacebuilders, with Peace Direct acting as the secretariat and providing the logistical support.

Who is coming to Peace Connect?

650 peacebuilders will attend Peace Connect. Approximately 80% of the tickets have been reserved for local peacebuilders, and most of these will be from the Global South/Majority World. The remaining 20% of tickets have been reserved for Global North allies, including INGOs and donors.

What should I expect if I am a local peacebuilder?

One of the aims of Peace Connect is to help local peacebuilders connect and learn from other local peacebuilders. There will be opportunities to join discussions, learn about other peacebuilder’s work, and share insights from your own work. So please come ready to listen and learn from others as well as to bring insights from your own practice.

Peace Connect is not a forum where participants can expect to secure funding for their work or lobby Global North policymakers or donors. This is often how local peacebuilders feel they need to ‘show up’ at peacebuilding events in Europe or North America, where they are in the minority and opportunities to engage with Global North actors are limited. Peace Connect is different. It is a space to build solidarity and learning between local peacebuilders, so if you are hoping to secure funding for your work or want to promote your organisation to Global North actors, this is not the space for you.

Who is organising Peace Connect?

Peace Direct is an international NGO based in the UK which supports local peacebuilders to stop violence and build sustainable peace. We provide funding, training and other resources to help them do the work that they feel is most relevant in their contexts. We currently support local peacebuilding efforts in 14 countries around the world. More information on our work can be found at www.peacedirect.org. While we have been convening local peacebuilders for almost 20 years, Peace Connect is the first global gathering of peacebuilders that we have organised.

Our team is primarily based in London and Washington DC, but works with team members and partners across the world.

Can I partner with Peace Direct?

We are currently completely committed to our existing local partners and so do not have the capacity to take on any new partners.

How can I attend Peace Connect?

You can register to attend here.

We have allocated almost half of tickets to Global South members of peacebuilding and other civil society networks*.

Applications for the remaining tickets for Global South-based grassroots peacebuilders with no financial support have now closed.

Global North donors and INGOs and Global South participants can still register for tickets. The ticket prices are as follows:

  • Global North donors/funders: $1,000
  • Global North INGOs: $500
  • Grassroots peacebuilders – Global North (Europe, North America, Australia): $350
  • Grassroots peacebuilders – Global South (INGO affiliated or sponsored/supported): $350

Register here.

Is sponsorship available for delegates?

Peace Direct is not able to sponsor places.

If I can cover my travel and accommodation costs can I have a free ticket to Peace Connect?

The costs of running the event are high, so it is not possible for us to provide free tickets to Peace Connect. Many of the tickets are already highly subsidised. The ticket costs are as follows:

  • Global North donors/funders: $1,000
  • Global North INGOs: $500
  • Grassroots peacebuilders – (INGO affiliated or sponsored/supported): $350
What does the ticket price cover exactly?

Peace Connect runs from Monday 13 October to Friday 17 October. This includes 4 full days of the gathering itself with plenaries, workshops, lightning talks etc. The middle day – Wednesday 15 October – is a wellbeing day when delegates are free to take the time to rest and recover or there will be opportunities to visit Nairobi National Park or a local peacebuilding project. The cost of the ticket includes the 4 days of the main event, including catering during the day and two evening events with meals. It does not include the cost of additional activities on the Wednesday.

Can I speak at/run a workshop at/contribute to Peace Connect?

We will shortly be opening a call for session ideas. If your session idea is successful, you will still need to buy a ticket for Peace Connect. Register for updates to be the first to hear about this.

Register here.

Is accommodation included in the cost of the conference?

No – the cost of accommodation is not included in the ticket price.

It is possible to stay at the Safari Park Hotel, where the event will be held, at a discounted delegate rate of $190 single/$230 twin B&B per night. Please book here

In addition, we recommend the following hotels:

If you are booking your own accommodation, we would recommend looking for hotels east of the Central Business District with easy access to Thika Road. The traffic in Nairobi can be very heavy, so this will minimise your travel time to the Safari Park Hotel. Alternatively, there are many accommodation options available close to the event venue at all price points.
