As a student I was really motivated to support charities just like Peace Direct, but it was always a toughy to work out how I could support them on a student budget. If only I had known about Rag Raids!

Rag – for those of you who aren’t familiar – stands for Raising And Giving.  A raid involves a group of energetic students, often in fancy dress, armed with buckets, stickers and permits collecting for one charity on UK city streets for the day.  Many universities have their own teams and raids offer a brilliant chance to meet new people, experience different cities and maybe have a celebratory night out…

This week I’d like to let everyone know just how important Rag Raids are to charities like us, and say a massive thankyou to all those who have ever raided for any charity.  Nottingham, Southampton, Oxford and Cambridge Universities have all raided for us this year, raising enough to provide 330 rescued, malnourished ex-child soldiers with food and medicine to recover once they are saved – thank you!

So if you’re a student and fancy getting involved, why not see if your college or university have a Rag team, then join it and get everyone raiding for Peace! Don’t forget to tell us which cities you want to collect in, and we’ll get cracking on getting Rag permits for you.

If one doesn’t exist, all you need is some enthusiastic volunteers to set one up.
