Dalia Association is a community foundation that realises Palestinians’ rights to control resources for their own durable development for generations to come. Their mission is to mobilise and properly utilise resources to empower a vibrant, independent, and accountable civil society, through community-controlled grant-making. Their community development approach focuses on the ecological, local economy, social and cultural dimensions.

What's happening in Palestine?

The Bedouin communities in Palestine, particularly in Area C of the West Bank, face acute vulnerabilities due to displacement, restricted access to land and resources, food insecurity, and climate change. Their traditional pastoralist lifestyle has been severely disrupted by socio-political challenges, environmental degradation, and economic marginalisation. As a result, their resilience and self-reliance have eroded, increasing their dependence on external aid.

The escalation of the political situation has not only geographically displaced Bedouins but also stripping their resilience, identity and abstraction of their community culture and norms.

In 2024, more than 3,000 settler attacks on Bedouins were recorded. And having their land confiscated by settlers has greatly impacted the community’s ability to sustain themselves, as they depend on livestock and agriculture as their main source of income. Having previously lived in areas with access to farming land and water sources, Bedouins are now being forcibly displaced to areas of the Westbank with much poorer infrastructure and harsh living conditions which fail to provide for basic living needs (shelter, water and safety). Lack of access to water has caused the spread of disease, alongside rising poverty rates due to the inability to work the land.

Those most affected are women, children and the elderly, as family breadwinners are unable to provide them with the most basic means of sustenance.

Dalia Association has identified the urgent need for intervention to protect Bedouins’ basic humanitarian rights and help restore the community’s strength and ability to thrive.

Strengthening resilience of forcibly displaced Bedouins

Through this project, Dalia Association aims to strengthen the resilience of forcibly displaced Bedouins from Area C to the Westbank, left without essential living needs. These communities are facing protracted displacement and environmental challenges, leaving behind all their assets of shelters, farms and living needs. The project will intend to restore livelihoods, improve food sovereignty, and enhance self-reliance focusing on developing sustainable agro-farming and livestock-based interventions.

In turn, Dalia Association will support Peace Direct in learning more about civil society in Palestine and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and will connect us with relevant organisations and groups with which they think we would be aligned.

Partnership with Peace Direct

Peace Direct began a partnership with Dalia Association in 2025, to strengthen displaced Bedouin communities’ resilience through community-led initiatives to support agriculture and food sovereignty. We also seek to empower them to deal with emergency situations that may accompany the displacement of Bedouin families and communities.

In the long run, the proposed project will contribute to a better quality of life for the displaced community while also creating a sustainable income from new initiatives for social equality and economic justice.
