Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It is observed on the 25th of November each year and aims to raise awareness of some of the gravest concerns facing women today – including systematic rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence.

The day was created by the United Nations to highlight the scale and true nature of these issues – as they are often misunderstood by the wider public.

To mark the day, we at Peace Direct would like to highlight the work of three of our partners, empowering women in conflict zones worldwide. Their extraordinary efforts inch us ever closer to a world in which violence against women is not tolerated and it is not simply seen as an inevitable consequence of war.
