“It is time for long-overdue action to save lives.”

These are the words of our local partner in Sudan, Adeela.

In April 2023, intense fighting between Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) reignited, putting Sudanese civilians in grave danger across the country. Now, following an 18-month besiegement, the RSF have seized control of El Fasher, a city in North Darfur.

Since then, at least 60,000 people have been killed in just three weeks, with reports of war crimes, including ethnic cleansing and sexual assault. About 150,000 people remain unaccounted for. Mass killings have swept the country, with satellite images showing probable mass grave sites.

The escalating violence across Sudan is another devastating blow for a people who were already experiencing the world’s ‘most severe’ humanitarian catastrophe.

30.4 million people need urgent humanitarian assistance. More than 10 million people are displaced, and a further 18 million are facing severe food insecurity.

In the midst of such turmoil, local peacebuilders like our partner Adeela are a vital lifeline.

What are local peacebuilders calling for?

The name of Adeela’s new campaign says it all: ‘Nothing to say’.

“Much has been spoken, much has been announced. Enough talk – the disaster speaks for itself ... We call on human rights organisations, humanitarian institutions, professionals, activists, and concerned individuals worldwide to join us and endorse this urgent appeal.”

The time for words has long passed. It’s time for action. DONATE. SHARE. ACT.
