Interns wantedMarch 2010

Peace Direct is looking for two interns to join our team in our London office.

Peace Direct funds local peacebuilders working in conflict areas to rebuild fragile communities and stop violence. We’re currently looking for two new interns to help us in our work:

Conflict and peacebuilding research intern:

The role of this intern will be to assist Peace Direct with research into the background of conflicts, and the work of local peacebuilding organisations. The work of the intern will feed into our Programmes work and also our Insight on Conflict website.

The role is ideal for someone wishing to gain broad experience of working in a dynamic NGO, and enhance their knowledge of conflict and peacebuilding. We’re looking for someone with some knowledge of, and interest in, conflict and international politics (though no specific academic qualification is required). The person should also be web-savvy, with excellent writing, editing, and IT skills.

Fundraising / communications intern:

We are looking for a creative and motivated individual with an eye for detail and great organisational skills. They will work on organising events, researching media outlets, and researching and copywriting promotional literature. This role would be ideal for someone who is full of ideas, happy to work of their own initiative and comfortable working collaboratively in a small team.

This role will give you a broad understanding of fundraising and marketing for a small organisation, and would be a great opportunity for someone looking to move into the sector. Some marketing experience would be beneficial, however good writing skills, creativity and willingness to get on and do the job are more important.

Apply

For both roles, flexibility, commitment, initiative and the ability to work in a small team are also important. Foreign languages would be great, but are not essential.

We can be flexible about exact timings, but the intern needs to commit to working with us part-time, for at least 3 months. The position is unpaid though travel and lunch expenses are paid.

Please email your CV and cover letter explaining your motivation and suitability for the role to ruairi@peacedirect.org by Monday 5th April 2010. Please specify which of the internship positions you are interested in applying for. Interviews will be held on the week of Monday 12th April. The successful candidates should ideally be available to commence work the following week.
