Message from Peace Direct’s US Executive Director for #GivingTuesday

It’s been a challenging and tumultuous year.

The coronavirus pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement, and contentious national elections have laid bare deep inequities, racism and division here in the U.S. We are called like never before to build peace in our own country, and to do it in solidarity with people around the world who are standing up for justice and healing in their own communities.

Local peacebuilders across the globe and here in our own country have refused to give up, even during this extremely challenging year, and are continuing their work. We are proud to stand by their side and do all we can to support them.

Dec. 1 is #GivingTuesday – a day to recognize and support people who are doing good work. A gift to Peace Direct today will help peacebuilders all over the world and here in the U.S.

Here are some ways we continued building peace this year:

When the pandemic lockdown threatened peacebuilding efforts, we provided nearly 200 small grants to provide digital tools for local groups around the world so they could adapt their work, through our Digital Inclusion Fund.

When partisan divisions crippled the U.S. Congress and fueled division, we helped build a bipartisan coalition in support of young people building peace and the newly introduced Youth, Peace and Security Act.

When calls for racial justice erupted across the U.S., we convened our communities to explore what we can do better, together, to undo systemic racism and build peace.

And as so many people struggled to stay hopeful amid all the turmoil, we continued sharing the stories and inspiration from local peacebuilders through our #peacetalks.

A new year of change is on the way.

Peacebuilders around the world and here in the U.S. are doing courageous work that deserves more recognition and more support.

End your year on an act of hope, and donate to Peace Direct to help these peacebuilders continue their work.

In gratitude and peace,

Bridget Moix, U.S. Executive Director of Peace Direct
