The conflicts in Beni (North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo) are both the causes and the consequences of atrocities and multiple human rights violations.
This study was carried out by our local partners, Research Initiatives for Social Development (RISD) and Beni Peace Forum with the support of Peace Direct, as part of the ‘Pamoja Kwa Amani Ya Beni’ [Together for the Peace of Beni] project.
This report describes the four key factors driving conflict dynamics, as well as the different types of conflicts and opportunities for lasting peace in the Beni territory. Outlining a set of ten recommendations, the authors call on state and non-state parties to collaborate and coordinate to address these conflicts, protect civilians, and ultimately build sustainable and inclusive peace in Beni.
