Foumiya was born the year war came to her country. At seven, her home town as devastated by massacres. Religious and ethnic groups turned against each other. She grew up in a world divided by fear, speaking only to fellow Muslims. Then she met Dishani.

Dishani Jayaweera is a peacebuilder. She runs the Young Visionaries project, where young people from each of Sri Lanka's fragmented communities can meet one another and learn - to break down their barriers, to defuse their anger and to work together for peace.

Foumiya attended a workshop run by Dishani and it changed her view of the violence that has shaped her life. She became one of the Young Visionaries.

Now Foumiya runs a project for 30 other young people in her town. They come from both sides of the conflict - and they're planning together to create workshops, sports events and cultural festivals, building respect and understanding in place of hatred and ignorance.

Dishani has trained 40 young leaders like Foumiya, with funding from Peace Direct. Each one is reaching out to their community.

Your gift could pay for renting a hall or their travel costs, as they tear down the barriers they grew up with.
