Partner Organisations

Peace Direct works with partner organisations who have existing networks of activists across the world. This allows us to benefit from local knowledge and experience about the nature of individual conflicts and the track record of peace activists in the area.

ACTION for Conflict Transformation

ACTION grew out of a network of people actively engaged in the practice of, and training on conflict transformation and peacebuilding, which was initially mobilised by Responding to Conflict, a UK based NGO. Over the three years following the initial meeting in 2000, ACTION members have worked on a threefold strategy of:

• Building capacity to transform conflicts
  
• Empowering communities to take action
  
• Facilitating linkages and learning between practitioners
  

ACTION currently has a co-ordinating centre in South Africa, a communications hub in northern Ireland, and an office in Cambodia. In November 2004 it held a conference of members which Peace Direct helped to fund. This provided an opportunity to discuss how Peace Direct and ACTION should work together.

In addition to the main ACTION network, ACTION supports regional networks such as COPA, the Coalition for Peace in Africa, Action Asia, and CPAU, the Coalition for Peace and Unity in Afghanistan.
