The Champions Programme
Champions are people like you who want to link with and fund a particular peace initiative for the long term. The programme provides core funding that allows people like Henri Bura Ladyi in the Democratic Republic of Congo to commit to peacebuilding, without having to worry about how to feed his family. At the same time you will learn and be inspired by the work of these immensely courageous people, through regular emails, photos and bulletins.
"I love my work, but it doesn't change lives. I feel privileged to be part of this Peace Direct initiative which is actually saving lives."John Salloway, Peace Direct Champion
What is my commitment?
Champions give anything from £10/month to £200/month by direct debit. You can cancel at any time, but this is envisaged as a commitment for at least three years.
How do I know what my money is being spent on?
At least 80% of your gift goes directly to the overseas project, You will receive regular reports about the project's activities. The rest goes towards the costs of identifying projects, maintaining contact with them, money transfer costs etc.
What does it cost to fund an overseas project?
We mainly fund salary costs overseas. At the moment all projects funded by the Champions receive £8,000/year. This is generally enough to fund a small team with a budget for travel and office costs.
How are projects selected?
We look for projects with a track record, but who could do more with long term secure funding. They must be committed to non-violence, and be enthusiastic about communicating what they are doing.
How can I double my money?
The Man Group plc Charitable Foundation is matching all Champions donations except those to DRC and Kenya. So with gift aid as well, your £10 is worth £22.80.
