PEOPLE WORK. NOT PAPER WORK.
GILL HICKS MBE, AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE.
Gill Hicks MBE was the last person to be rescued from her train in the London bombings of 7th July 2005. Since September 2006 she has been a passionate ambassador for Peace Direct.
Gill has taken part in events promoting peace at all levels around the world – from classroom debates and community gatherings to national and international forums and numerous media appearances. We’ve made two short films with Gill to mark the UN Day of Peace which have been seen by thousands of people around the world and profiled on the Oprah Winfrey Show. See the first Gill Hicks film.
M.A.D. for Peace.
Gill has set up her own not-for-profit organisation M.A.D. for Peace.
- M.A.D. (Making a Difference) for Peace exists to communicate the importance of our individual responsibility in creating a world in which extreme conflict and its human consquences are ended.
- M.A.D.’s belief is that peace starts within each and every one of us.
- M.A.D.’s aim is to encourage people to choose peace – for peace to be a verb, something we all ‘actively’ do.
- M.A.D.’s approach to building peace is creative, passionate, and considered.

“There are many courageous people risking their lives around the world to create peace in their community – they, like me believe passionately that one individual can make a difference, that peace is possible and each and every one of us has the power to make it possible. Peace starts with you.” Gill Hicks, MBE
