GILL HICKS TO CARRY OLYMPIC TORCH

Peace Direct Ambassador Gill Hicks has been chosen to form part of the Beijing Olympic Torch relay. Torchbearers carry the flame on its long journey from Greece to Beijing for the opening ceremony on August 8th. Gill will join eighty Australians, including past and present Olympians who will take part in her country's leg of the relay in April in Canberra.

Gill was the last person to be rescued from her train in the London bombings of 7th July 2005. Her legs were amputated and both ear drums severely perforated. Since September 2006 she has been a passionate ambassador for Peace Direct.

She has taken part in events promoting peace at all levels around the world - from classroom debates and community gatherings to national and international forums and numerous media appearances.

Gill describes herself as “absolutely bursting with pride” at the news.
