Make Your Peace: September 21st 2008

If Valentine's Day makes it easy to say I love you
Make Your Peace makes it easy to say I'm sorry

We all experience conflict - conflict at work, in the family, the playground, our relationships. We've all felt pushed to breaking point and we've all over-reacted, or behaved in a way we later regretted and wished we could make redress for. 'Make Your Peace' is your chance to do just that. It's a special campaign to help you do something positive and practical about conflict in your life.

THE PEACEBUILDERS TOOLKIT
Peace Direct funds peacebuilders working on the frontline of conflict. Everyday they risk their lives building peace in some of the world's most hostile environments. On September 21st, International Day of Peace, we will launch the world's first Peacebuilders Toolkit. The toolkit will offer simple approaches for building peace and resolving conflict as used by our peacebuilders in the field. From engaging the other, reaching out, to taking risks, the toolkit will offer practical, down to earth ideas for positive action. Each tool will be illustrated by real life stories from international peacebuilders like Ashima Kaul in Kashmir:

Ashima Kaul
"I work to recover those spaces where we are completely free to express ourselves, where we don't feel intimidated by anyone, and can rebuild broken relationships."

and Dekha Ibrahim Abdi in Kenya:

Dekha Ibrahim Abdi
"Peace can not be brought through the muscle, through the barrel of the gun. It is brought through the transformative experience of the individual."

The toolkit will go live on our new website, September 21st. There will be message boards for people to post their own conflict stories, e-cards that you can customize and send as peace offerings, interactive quizzes and a tribute page for you to give thanks to your heroes of peace.
