Peace Direct are currently advertising for two jobs: a project manager and a full-time administrative and supporter assistant.
Job Description for Project Manager, Truce 2012
Salary £25,000 plus 6% pension contribution, 25 days holiday, season ticket loan
Truce 2012 is a project to develop leadership and conflict resolution skills in young people in East London in the run up to the Olympics (see concept note).
Overall purpose
To manage the overall project, paying particular attention to ensuring that its various components coordinate and contribute to the overall success of the initiative.
Main responsibilities
· Project management and contributing to the development and implementation of the long term plan
· Liaising between the partner organisations on a day to day basis and the individuals responsible for the delivery of the project’s components, including the appointed evaluators
· Identifying opportunities for the development of the project and managing the relevant administration for eg:
o Identifying opportunities in Newham and beyond for the course participants to use their skills and administering the grant fund for this purpose
o Identifying areas where better interaction between young people and statutory services could lead to reduced conflict and working to improve these
o Building relationships with partner organisations such as the Olympic Delivery Authority, Right to Play and Fight for Peace
· Working with Peace Direct’s comms team to raise the profile of conflict resolution in Newham
· Managing budgets in liaison with Head of UK Programmes
· Fundraising for future phases of Truce 2012, with support from the partner organisations and promoting its work to other local authorities
Reporting to
The Head of UK Programmes, Peace Direct.
Essential qualities
· Strong project management skills
· Strong track record of partnership building, preferably with local authorities
· Excellent communications skills with a wide range of people, including young people
· Ability to identify funding opportunities, prepare and support fundraising bids
· Self starter with imagination and vision
· Ability to work in a team effectively
· Ability to get up to speed quickly

Admin and Support Assistant
Vacancy (start June 2007)
Peace Direct is looking for someone to cover a wide range of responsibilities in our office. The tasks you will be required to do will give anyone just out of school a very broad experience and a good understanding of the operation of the charity sector. This position is for one year and is suitable for a gap year student. It is not suitable for graduates or post-graduates.
Main Purpose
To assist Senior Administrator in all her tasks, including learning to use Raiser’s Edge, our supporter database, and to upload information onto the Insight on Conflict database www.insightonconflict.org.
A Administration
Answering phones

Stationery management: paper, envelopes, etc
Responsible for executing travel booking and room booking
Responsible for photocopying and printing
Recycling
Web submissions first point of contact
Compiling a monthly email newsletter (CODEP)

Dealing with supporter enquiries, by post email and phone
Processing supporter gifts
C Insight on Conflict
Uploading information about peacebuilders worldwide onto the Insight on Conflict website
Plus other administrative tasks that may be required from time to time.
Person Specification We would like someone who is open and friendly and prepared to take on anything asked of them, within reason, and yet who can say ‘No’ when the need to prioritise arises. You should be able to prioritise your tasks as there will be occasions when there will be a lot to do in a short amount of time. Your time will be structured carefully, and you will be supervised by the Senior Administrator (A and B) and the Insight on Conflict Project Manager (C). It would also be helpful if you have a strong ability to organise yourself. We need someone who has an excellent command of the English language, and who can write eloquently and creatively as well as communicating well over the phone. You must have an eye for detail and high standards, as we are a young organisation with a need to present ourselves well. As much of your work will involve interacting with reasonably complicated IT systems, you should be able to demonstrate a real affinity with IT.
