VACANCIES AT PEACE DIRECT

Peace Direct has two vacancies: For an admin and supporter assistant, and an intern to join the team working on the Insight on Conflict peacebuilding database at www.insightonconflict.org.

1) ADMIN & SUPPORTER ASSISTANT

Peace Direct is a young charity based in London EC2 which supports local peacebuilders in conflict areas across the world. We won Best New Charity in 2005. We have a vacancy for an Admin and Support Assistant for seven months starting mid September 2007.

Job pays minimum wage but is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to gain solid paid work experience, with a varied range of tasks, in an inspiring and dynamic organisation. This position is for four days a week and is suitable for a gap year student, school leaver or graduate.

Main Purpose

To assist in all administrative tasks, including learning to use Raiser’s Edge, our supporter database, and to upload information onto the Insight on Conflict database www.insightonconflict.org

A Administration

Answering phones, post, ordering supplies, booking rooms and travel, web submissions, recycling, photocopying, compiling monthly newsletter.

B Supporters

Dealing with supporter enquiries, by post email and phone. Processing supporter gifts.

C Insight on Conflict

Uploading information about peacebuilders worldwide onto the Insight on Conflict website.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Computer savvy, with the ability to pick up new IT skills quickly
  • Excellent written and spoken English, flair for communications
  • Well organised, systematic and reliable
  • Extremely good attention to detail
  • Able to juggle competing priorities, strong evidence of multi-tasking skills
  • Conscientious approach to work and timekeeping
  • Enthusiasm, desire to learn
  • Willingness to commit to work for 7 months

Desireable

  • Interest in conflict resolution

2) INTERN, Insight on Conflict Project: www.insightonconflict.org

Peace Direct supports active peacebuilding in conflict areas. Our intention is to raise the profile of this work and bring it into the mainstream of government policy and charitable giving.

We're looking for a new intern to edit, review and input information on community peacebuilding initiatives in different conflict areas onto the Insight On Conflict website. There may also be possiblities for the intern to assist with marketing the website, and become involved in other aspects of Peace Direct's work.

The role is ideal for someone wishing to gain broad experience of working in a dynamic NGO and enhance their knowledge of conflict and peacebuilding.

We're looking for someone web-savvy, with excellent writing, editing and IT skills. Flexibility, commitment, initiative and the ability to work in a small team are also important. Experience of marketing and foreign languages would be great but are not essential for the post.

We can be flexible about exact timings, but the intern needs to commit to working with us part-time for at least three months. The position is unpaid with a small daily remuneration.
