Fallujah

The siege of Fallujah constitutes one of the most extensive human rights violations of recent times. Jonathan Holmes' play based on research carried out by Scilla Elworthy and Peace Direct uses verbatim testimony from those at the heart of the siege.

With Fallujah, Ilium Productions have brought together leading artistic figures to create a powerful cross-disciplinary piece. This unique event marks the first time collaboration between writer Jonathan Holmes, composer Nitin Sawhney and artists Lucy & Jorge Orta.

The set, conceived by renowned contemporary artists Lucy and Jorge Orta, will form a substantial art installation in its own right and will be open daily to the public for the run of the play. It is designed to create a sensory, 360° experience, incorporating real vehicles and uniforms in a way which is typical of Orta’s dramatic and performative style.

This play presents testimony from those at the heart of the siege: Iraqi civilians, clerics, US military and politicians, journalists, medics, aid workers, and the British Army. None of this testimony has been heard before.
