DRCONGO:PHOTO JOURNAL
Through our Champions Programme you've been supporting Henri's peacebuilding work in the D.R.Congo since 2005. You're his back up - never forget what an impact your generosity is having. Henri's just sent us some photos which should prove it.
Last month we brought you news of Henri's dramatic negotiations from deep within the jungle near Aveba. He persuaded a sceptical government that a 250-strong gang of armed militia could be trusted. This is the moment his work paid off as the men come out the jungle and rejoin the community.
What's at the heart of Peace Direct's philosophy is the concept that local people have the knowledge and trust of their own community to know what will bring sustainable peace. There was a time when the only way UN troops could come down this road was in a tank. This photo shows them relaxed and accepted within the community. Henri fostered genuine trust on both sides; that's something we believe only local knowledge can achieve.
Your support means Henri doesn't need to worry about putting food on the table to feed his family. His eldest of four sons is adopted, an orphan of the violence.
