THE INSIDE STORY OF HOW PEACE WAS ACHIEVED IN KENYA
Peacebuilder DEKHA IBRAHIM ABDI in conversation with Newsnight's PAUL MASON.

Violent clan clashes that followed the disputed election in Kenya shocked the world. 1,500 people were killed, 600,000 forced to flee their homes, and deep-rooted ethnic tensions exposed. At times it looked as though Kenya could become another Rwanda.
Four months on and millions of Kenyans watch in peace as President Kibaki walks side by side with Rail Odinga from the gates of the State House in Nairobi with a coalition government in place.
How was this peace achieved? Peace activist Dekha Ibrahim Abdi is one key reason.

For years, Peace Direct supporters have sponsored Dekha’s work, starting on a small scale in Wajir as she made her local market safe, spreading across great swathes of North East Kenya, across neighbouring Somalia, and now crucially, in Nairobi.
