Colombia Update: Graduation

We've just had contact from Martha, Julieth and the team at the Escuela in Cali. The atmosphere in Colombia is tense with rallies taking place across the country calling for guerillas to hand over the bodies of eleven hostages recently killed in a rebel camp. Against this backdrop the work of these amazing women has never seemed more important or inspiring.

Hello everyone,

Last month we were able to bring you news of the graduates from our outreach programme in the village of Santander. I am very pleased to say that forty students have now completed their course at the main Escuela here in Cali. The fact that all of the graduates are young is very important to us. I've sent photos and testimonies from some of the women.

"During all of these months I waited for Saturdays with trepidation to learn from forty other women. Each has an interesting history of struggle and self-sacrifice and each is getting ready for change."

"It enriched me as a person and especially as a woman proud of her gender and female identity."

"For some time I'd been questioning the reality in which we live, and the role of women. It was so reassuring to find these issues were analysed and there was an answer."
