OUR FUNDING APPROACH
Peace Direct seeks out effective and committed local peacebuilders and funds them according to their own strategic priorities. Peace Direct does not have a model that it seeks to implement, but relies on local people to know what is needed. We find groups through networking, seeking advice from experts in the field. We rarely respond to unsolicited approaches.
We look for groups with a track record, but who are still at a stage where relatively small sums, given flexibly, make a real difference. We are interested in groups who are committed to non-violence, have a vision of what they want to achieve, want to communicate what they are doing, and are keen to reflect on their progress and learning.
For more detail on this please click on the pdf below.
We are guided by the conclusions on what makes for effective peacebuilding set out in the Collaborative for Development Action's study 'Reflecting on Peace Practice'.
We fund individual groups on a long term basis, through the Champions programme, and through one-off grants, sometimes on behalf of other funders. We also fund area wide projects that bring together different groups, for instance through Rapid Response Funds, which put resources into the hands of local communities to respond rapidly to outbreaks of violence, or by bringing groups together to form networks, such as the Collaborative for Peace in Sudan.
